Building Cleaners Rally for a Fair Contract

Over 2,000 building cleaners from Hartford to New Haven are in the middle of a fight for a new union contract that will affect everything from their wages to their working conditions. 

But progress has been slow and the current contract expires at the end of the year. 

The cleaners, who are members of SEIU 32BJ, are fighting for the same thing that workers all over the country are fighting for – fair raises, affordable health care, and secure retirement benefits.

Building cleaners perform jobs that require difficult hours and backbreaking effort, and yet too many of us take their effort for granted or treat the work as a given. They deserve a contract that acknowledges their need for sufficient take-home pay, the protection of employer-paid health insurance, and retirement benefits that allow them to retire with dignity.
