Rally to Support Striking Group Home Workers

Over 1,700 group home and day program caregivers are going on strike on Wednesday, May 24, starting at 6:00 a.m.! 

They’re fighting for basic dignity and respect. Most of these workers are paid barely over minimum wage with unaffordable health insurance and little to no retirement benefits. Some of these workers have been homeless. And they do critical care work – taking care of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Join the workers, who are members of SEIU District 1199NE, on Wednesday at noon as they consolidate their strike lines for a rally to demand a living wage!

Union group home workers going on strike include direct support and direct care staff, dietary workers, maintenance staff, program aides, job coaches, assistant managers, assistant program coordinators, residential day program workers, assistant teachers, behavior paraprofessionals, and some licensed practical nurses.

SEIU District 1199NE, the New England Health Care Employees Union, represents over 25,000 caregivers in Connecticut and some 4,000 in Rhode Island.
