On Saturday, November 4, hospital workers from Danbury and New Milford Hospitals will rally for a first contract and respect on the job.

After voting to join together in union with Connecticut Health Care Associates (CHCA) on September 1, 2016, these workers are still fighting to get a first contract that provides modest wage increases, controls health care costs, and includes just cause language.

One of the most egregious proposals from management at the hospital would increase health care costs for some workers by as much as 80% despite having similar or decreased health care premiums from the previous year. Some of the workers at the hospitals make as little as $11 an hour.

The nearly 900 workers perform a wide variety of jobs at the two hospitals, including environmental service workers, Certified Nursing Assistants, patient care technicians, office workers, and many others roles that form the backbone of the hospital and keep it running smoothly.

The rally will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Kaplanis Field, which is immediately adjacent to Danbury Hospital. The speaking program will begin at 1:30 p.m.
