On April 28, the unions of the AFL-CIO will observe Workers Memorial Day to remember those who have suffered and died on the job, and to renew the fight for safe jobs.

More than 50 years ago, the Occupational Safety and Health Act went into effect, promising every worker the right to a safe job. The law was won because of the tireless efforts of the labor movement, which organized for safer working conditions and demanded action from the government to protect working people. Since then, unions and our allies have fought hard to make that promise a reality.

Traditionally, we have asked our affiliates to purchase wreaths for the ceremony. While we will have a couple of wreaths again, the Health & Safety Committee is instead asking affiliates to please consider making a donation to support the Connecticut Council on Occupational Safety and Health, better known as ConnectiCOSH.

ConnectiCOSH is the state's oldest coalition fighting for safe and healthy workplaces and communities. They work to educate, support and train workers about how to stay healthy and safe in their workplace. And for years, they have actively participated on our Health & Safety Committee.

If your union is interested in contributing, please click here to donate online. Or you can send a check to ConnectiCOSH, 683 North Mountain Rd, Newington, CT 06111.

Good Jobs. Safe Jobs. Protect Our Rights.
