The Connecticut AFL-CIO is calling on people across the state to demand Governor Lamont stand with striking workers, not corporate CEOs, and support SB 8 which would allow striking workers to access unemployment insurance. Take action now and send your message to Governor Lamont urging him to support workers' rights and the Unemployment Insurance for Striking Workers campaign.

- Ironworkers Jescraft Strike – Ongoing: Support Ironworkers on a union recognition strike at Jescraft in Oxford, fighting unsafe working conditions, improper PPE, and no raises. Picket line is active 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, Monday–Friday at 116 Willenbrock Rd, Oxford, CT.
- UAW Electric Boat Rally – April 14th @ 5PM: UAW Local 571 members at Electric Boat will hold a Strike Authorization Rally at 5:00 PM at the Mystic Marriott in Groton, with UAW President Shawn Fain. Let’s continue to rally behind them.
- Jahana Hayes Town Hall – April 14th @ 5:30PM: Connecticut AFL-CIO affiliated members in Congresswoman Hayes' district are invited to a town hall at 5:30 PM. For registration, contact ccieniawski@ctaflcio.org.
- CTFA March for Economic Security For All– April 15th @ 10:30AM: Connecticut For All and allies will march from the Legislative Office Building to the Office of Policy and Management in Hartford to demand progressive tax policies that support working families. Register here.
- Rally Joe Courtney to Protect Social Security – April 15th @ 12PM: Join Congressman Joe Courtney on Tuesday, April 15 at noon for a rally in front of the Social Security Administration Office in New London to protect Social Security benefits.
- L’Ambiance Memorial – April 23rd @ 11AM: On Tuesday, April 23, join union members, families, and community leaders at Bridgeport City Hall to honor the 28 workers who died in the 1987 L’Ambiance Plaza collapse.
- Workers Memorial Day – April 28th @ 12PM: Join us at 12 PM at Bushnell Park in Hartford and 6 AM at Washington Park in Groton to honor workers who lost their lives on the job and demand better protections.
- May Day Rally – May 1st @ 10:30AM and 5PM: Join us for the Unity March for Social and Economic Justice in Hartford at 10:30 AM (Bushnell Park) and New Haven at 5:00 PM (New Haven Green).
- IUPAT Rally in Norwalk – May 3rd @ 10AM: Join IUPAT District 11 from 10 AM to 1 PM at 330 Connecticut Ave, Norwalk. Demand accountability for the Oak Grove Norwalk project; multiple DOL investigations and stop work orders are ongoing for unsafe practices.
Pratt and Whitney Machinists Sanction Strikes – Support IAM Local 1746 and Local 700!
IAM Local 1746 and Local 700 have voted to sanction strikes if necessary at Pratt and Whitney, unless a new contract is reached by May 4th. Recently, Pratt and Whitney proposed to eliminate ALL defined benefit pensions. Stay tuned for updates and be ready to stand in solidarity!
Recent Actions
- Hands Off Protests – April 5th: Connecticut joined a national day of action with "Hands Off!" protests in cities across the state. Over 3,000 people in Hartford voiced opposition to harmful policies affecting workers, retirees, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community.
- Congressional/Senate Town Halls: Thank you to all who attended the Connecticut AFL-CIO town halls with Senators Blumenthal and Murphy, Congressman Larson, Congressman Courtney, Congresswoman DeLauro, and Congressman Himes.
- Barnes & Noble Action: Workers at Barnes & Noble in North Haven voted to form their union with UFCW Local 919! They are the first to unionize in Connecticut.
- PetSmart Action: Good union dogs and their owners showed up in support of PetSmart workers in East Hartford voting to unionize with UFCW 371.
